Patriots owner on Wes Welker: "We want him here"

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft has made it clear that he wants wide receiver Wes Welker to come back next season,  since his contract is scheduled run out at the end of the season.

“Well, I think Wes wants to be here, and we want him here,” Kraft said. “Hopefully when the season ends, both sides will be wise enough to consummate something. He’s pretty special. Anytime there’s a player on this team I can look eye to eye and be at the same level, he’s an important guy.“

Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick are smart men and know they need to make sure they re-sign Welker.

Despite the emergence of tight end’s Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski,  Welker is an entirely different kind of weapon that the Patriots need in order to keep their offense as diverse as they can.

In the end,  Welker is just another weapon that opposing defenses have to game plan for.
