As New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning prepares to host NBC’s Saturday Night Live, he took some time to address the player suspensions that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell handed down on Wednesday.
“I think he’s doing the right thing to make sure this doesn’t ever happen again,” Manning said. “There’s no room for any type of bounty system in the N.F.L. You have to respect the game.”
“I think he’s been harsh to try and prove, to make a statement, that there is no place for this in the game of football.”
Manning is one of the few players that understands that Goodell is not trying to take the physicality out of football, but he’s rather trying to make the game safer by making it clear that intentionally trying to injure an opposing player won’t be tolerated.
