The belief around the NFL is that commissioner Roger Goodell will severely punish Colts owner Jim Irsay after being arrested this offseason for possession of a controlled substance, according to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report.
Punishment could come down as early as this week. The speculation I hear from team officials is that commissioner Roger Goodell will severely punish Irsay, who has unfortunate timing. The union, the media, every player in the league—they are looking to see if Goodell hits the owners as hard as he’s hit some of the players. Irsay will be a sacrificial lamb.
The most interesting aspect is what happens post-Irsay punishment. How long can Irsay hold control of the team? Will other family members step in and take control?
Owner should be held to a higher standard then the players as the backbone of the NFL.
