Willis McGahee may end up getting released down the road

Mike Klis of the Denver Post believes running back Willis McGahee will be vulnerable to getting released this offseason after suffering a compression fracture in his right tibia this past season and the fact that he’s now 31 years-old.

Age, injury and a $2.5 million salary in 2013 make McGahee vulnerable. The Broncos will shop for a running back. And I believe they will look first for a veteran free agent with tread on his tires because pass protecting Peyton Manning is a high priority for a Broncos running back.

The Broncos are currently $16 million over the cap and if they release McGahee they’ll save another $3 million in 2013.

I don’t expect the Broncos to cut McGahee unless they can find a suitable replacement for less money.
