Wade Phillips believes J.J. Watt will be in the Hall of Fame
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillips clearly loves defensive end J.J. Watt. He told the Houston Chonicle that he believes Watt will one day have a bust at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH.
“(Watt’s) going to be a bust — not a first-round bust but a bust in the Hall of Fame,” said Phillips. “The only players I’ve seen that can do what he can do with his intensity can be found in Canton.”
Watt reminds Phillips of former Raiders great Howie Long.
“I’ve seen a lot of guys, and I compare him to Howie Long) in that he has the same quickness to beat (offensive) linemen off the ball. He’s a smart guy who gets it,” Phillips said.
“I expect J.J. to become a megastar,” teammate Antonio Smith said. “I told him, ‘People are going to be looking for you this year (and), you’re not going to surprise them anymore. They’re going to get up to play because of your reputation.’ ”
Now that Phillips has claimed that Watt will be in the Hall of Fame, there shouldn’t be any pressure on him to perform (I’m being sarcastic).
