Even though New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz signed his restricted free agent tender today, there’s still a chance he might hold out from training camp. Of course if he does hold out, he can be fined $30,000 for each days he misses.
With Cruz now under contract, he must report to training camp 30 days before the 2013 NFL regular season begins. If he doesn’t he’ll be a restricted free agent once again after this season, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
Because Cruz is now under contract, failing to show up at least 30 days before the regular-season opener on September 5 between the Ravens and Broncos means that Cruz would lose a year of credit toward free agency. Which, in Cruz’s case, means he wouldn’t be a free agent in March 2014.
So if Cruz wants to hit free agency after this season, he’ll show up by August 6th.
