Texas A&M owns the trademark rights to “12th man” not the Seahawks

While Seattle Seahawk fans enjoy referring to themselves as the “12th man,”  that’s legally not the case.

According to Darren Heitner of Forbes,  Texas A&M University own the trademark rights to the phrase.

The Seahawks and Texas A&M have had some legal battles over the phrase in the past.

Seattle even acknowledges on their official web site that A&M owns the trademark.

I’m not sure I get the point of this post. This isn’t news. This was settled 5-7 years ago.

Settled in 2006. Why is this relevant now?

A&M wasn’t even the first school to use the term; Iowa used it first in 1912, 10 years before A & M. And exactly what is the point of this story? Online journalism is pathetic.
