Terrell Owens feels he’s been made into a villain

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens made an appearance on the Ben & Skin show on KESN-FM 103.3 per the Dallas Morning News.  He was asked what people should expect from him playing for the Allen Wranglers in the Indoor Football League.

“I’m gonna have fun with it. I’m using this as a platform to keep myself in shape. The business end of it is something that intrigued me, being a co-owner with the team. This is me transitioning to life after football. I feel I’m physically fit and can play at a productive level to where I can play a couple of more years in the National Football League. That’s what I’m pushing for. I’m not going to give up hope just because I’m 38 and just had a knee injury. I think a lot of why I probably didn’t play this year, everybody keeps talking about the ‘character’ issues. The last two or three years relatively I was quiet, knowing that everybody was saying that I had a character issue, I’m disruptive, there’s a lot of hype that comes with me, they’re saying I’m a distraction here and there. That’s all hearsay. If you ask a bunch of my teammates, a lot of it is basically blown out of proportion, the media making me into a fall guy. Overall, will I ever admit that I was a bad teammate? Never. I wasn’t a bad teammate. Was I disruptive. No I wasn’t disruptive. I feel like I have a lot of football left and I’m looking forward to getting back to playing. I think the thing … I didn’t get picked up was that a lot of general managers bought into the fact that the media thinks that I’m this bad guy, this rebel guy, this disruptive guy that divides and messes up team’s chemistry. They won’t allow me to turn over a new leaf. They won’t allow me to be a better person. Anytime anything is brought up about me, they keep talking about things that happened five, six, seven years ago. Why don’t I get a pass? I’ve kind of fallen into that villain category and I can’t get out of that box.”

I do agree wth Owens that the incidents that he was involved in during his career were likely blown out of proportion, but there’s a reason they occurred and he is that reason.  In the end I don’t feel sorry for him and feel like he made his bed and it’s time for him to lay in it.

Of course Owens doesn’t think he was a bad teammate.

I’d love to see a poll of former teammates from the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills, & Bengals. I know Jeff Garcia will say he was the worst teammate of all time. As will McNabb, Romo, and I bet 80% plus of his former teammates.

Follow TO’s movement through the league and follow the drama. Really too bad he was/is such a headcase because he had talent in his prime.

It’s like a ex-girlfriend (NFL) who wants to reconcile and wants you to forget all the jealousy, stalking, tire slashing etc..
Trying to convince you that its all in the PAST.
How much you may want to believe it, Close your eyes and think of that hellish rollercoaster ride you swore you would never ride again!

When he first came to the niners, TO was a very polite and intelligent young man and was respectful of ownership and teammates. As to work ethic, he was as obsessive as Jerry Rice in maintaining a rigorous training regimen and continuously honing his WR skills. Then came Dallas, Garcia and Mooch and his mouth came to life. It’s sad really; so much talent and ability wasted.

If he wasn’t a disruptive influence then why would he need to turn over a new leaf. If he caused turmoil, why would he need a pass on his behavior? What a fool to have squandered so much.

I think that there is a lot of truth in what T.O is saying. Every incident that has surrounded his team mates were facts and the truth. I feel that T.O’s problem is that he lacks the ability to communicate his feelings correctly. He’s a passionate player and person and that can be a gift and a curse. T.O has been loyal to the game worked hard and never has used enhancements to improve his career. Many professionals in safe guard of there image and career make sure that when they speak they are politically correct rather than just shooting straight from the hip. As a former player i can appreciate T.O’s dedicaiton to the game and his will to win and would have loved to be a team mate of someone that’s as dedicated to the game as he has. People have to realize that these athletes are entertainers who pay entertainment taxes in each city and state.

I think TO deserves another chance… their are so many athletes who get caught up in the hipe when they’re young… if they are able to mature and turn things around in their lives, are still at the top of their game… why not let them play again? Im sure management can come up with some type of creative contracts to get rid of troublesome players!

I don’t think TO is a villian! I do think TO is a suicidal cry baby, snitch, back stabber, a miserable human being and a jerk. Outside of those things he’s OK!

If know no one likes him on any team so he will adjust to his environment. He will be quiet and play football. T.O is obviously a follower not a leader, he responds to stimuli even if it is counter productive. If he has no friends on the team he will be forced to concentrate his emotions on football. This scenario should be considered by owners to allow him to return to the game. He is talented and ready to ball…everyone deserves a second chance even T.O.

It wasn’t the media who said” I love me some me”. He has been oneof the most selfish players I’ve ever seen. He wasn’t playing golf where an individual can reign but a TEAM sport. Frankly I just hope he disappears from the media all togegher.

Ever notice that the lowest of the low always blame their problems in life on someone else. That is TO of a T. No one needs the distraction he provides every second of the day.

I agree the media put the microphone in front of your face….but they never told you what to say and what team-mate to throw under the bus. In the good old days, that stuff was discussed in-house and you were actually told to shut-up!!

I think TO should be allowed to play in the NFL again. He may have attitude but there are soooo many football players in the NFL that have the same attitude that he does it just wasn’t out in the media because the sportscasters didn’t mention them the way they did TO. Look at Ochocinco he has the same attitude and he is still playing. Let TO come back and play in the NFL!!

There is no doubt that T.O. is a great athlete, is probably in excellent shape, and has a true desire to play in the NFL again. But, I think that it’s pretty obvious based on the turnout to his last years “workout”: no one wants this idiot on their team period. He IS a cancer.
