According to Len Pasquarelli of Yahoo Sports, a lot of teams have contacted the Indianapolis Colts about a possible trade for defensive end Dwight Freeney.
Freeney is still under contract with the Colts, but with them switching to a 3-4 as they re-build, it doesn’t make sense for them to keep him around.
Freeney wouldn’t transition well to a 3-4 and would be better off going to a team like the Bills or Dolphins who need pass rushers as they switch to a 4-3 for next season.
The other way the Colts can save money, is if they sign Freeney to an extension, but that doesn’t make sense since he’ll 32 next season.
At the end of the day, I would be really surprised if Freeney is with the Colts at the beginning of the 2012 season.
