After hearing about Ben Roethlisberger’s minor knee surgery the other day, the Pittsburgh Steelers are making more injury news today, although this time a bit more serious.
According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers have placed veteran corner back Justin Smith on IR and have replaced him with undrafted rookie Nigel Malone who plays the same position.

Malone was with the Indianapolis Colts earlier in the off season which is also where King played last year for 5 games until he was cut.
The injury is bad news for the cap-strapped Steelers who will now have to carry King’s $715,000 salary on their payroll. If the veteran cornerback had made it onto the roster by week 1, he could of still been cut and not owed a penny of that from the Steelers.
