Sio Moore impressive at Raiders camp, penciled in as starter

Sio Moore was one of my favorite LB prospects this year because of his versatility. As I followed him through the draft process I was amazed at how underrated he was. In a UCONN defense that has produced some very solid NFL talent Moore stood out. His ability to rush the passer combined with his coverage ability is very rare for such a young player. He’s a good enough pass rusher to help the Raiders 27th ranked pass rush and isn’t a liability in coverage like former #55 Raider LB Rolando McClain who couldn’t cover his shadow. Moore most certainly will have some growing pains along the way but any one that has been following my Raiders Training Camp notes knows that Moore is being used all over the field. He has been receiving first team snaps and according to the Raiders new depth chart (keep in mind these are always very much in flux) will open the season at SAM. As I reported yesterday Sio limped to the sideline after making a play on the pass but it didn’t seem too serious. I expect him to rest today and be ready to play at least a series or two tomorrow night.

I am impressed with Moore. I think he has the chance of being that elite player at his position that the Raiders have long missed. We soon will find out and get a look at how they will be. Or at least an ideal of where they are going. The chemistry is the most important. If they gel together and Moore and company put it together on defense we could have and interesting season.
