New York Jets running back Shonn Greene is ready to take over as the teams workhorse in 2011. Fellow teammates and running back LaDanian Tomlinson believes he’s ready to take on the task as well.
“Expect a lot of production,” said Greene.
Over the past two seasonsGreene has learned from Thomas Jones for one season and LaDanian Tomlinson this past season. Greene admits it’s a lot of pressure to be playing ahead of a future hall of famer in Tomlinson.
“It is,” admitted Greene, “but I’m a football player and I accept the challenge. It does kind of feel weird, being the player he is, but I’m going to take on the job.”
Head coach Rex Ryan has already given his vote of confidence and that’s meant alot to Greene.
“It was great and that meant a lot to me because it shows they have a lot of confidence in me, in what I can do and how I can help this team get to the next level,” he said.
The support of Tomlinson, one of the NFL’s all time greats at running back, has meant the world to Greene.
“Oh, it means a lot,” he said. “I can’t even explain that, coming from a guy of his stature.”
Greene feels that he gets better as a game goes on and he gets more carries.
