It looks like News Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton will be a little busy while serving his year-long NFL suspension.

The good news is that Payton will be able to keep his coaching skills sharp by serving as an interim coach in the Dallas area.  He plans on helping out as a coach on his son Connor’s sixth-grade football team, the Liberty Christian Warriors.

“I don’t want to do anything that interrupts what I do as a coach,” said Payton, per the New Orleans Times-Picayune.“I’m an assistant coach working with the offense.”

Payton also expressed how happy he is now that Drew Brees has a new five-year contract.

“I think I said this before, it wasn’t a question of ‘if,’ it was a question of ‘when,’” Payton said. “I’m excited. I’m excited and happy for him as well as the Saints. I think it’s a good deal for both parties. I know a lot of work’s gone into it, with (General Manager Mickey Loomis) and (Brees’ agent) Tom Condon.

“I kind of look at things in a glass-half-full way. It just came down to the last couple days, and I felt confident all along that both parties would be able to work something out, and I’m happy they did.”
