Schefter: Joe Flacco will be the highest paid player in NFL history

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, talks between the Baltimore Ravens and Joe Flacco’s agent Joe Linta are ongoing.  He says a deal can get done very soon or could take some time.

The Ravens will have until Monday (March 4th) to get a deal done with Flacco before they’ll be forced to place the franchise tag on him.  If they use the exclusive tag, it will cost them $19.6 million against the salary cap.  If they use the non-exclusive tag, the Ravens will owe Flacco $14.5 million for 2013.

If the Ravens to end up tagging Flacco, they’re going to want to give him a new contract as soon as possible so they can lower his cap number to give themselves room to sign some of their own free agents.
