Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan knows who his starting quarterback is, but right now it’s not clear who’ll start at wide receiver. He acknowledged that Pierre Garcon, Leonard Hankerson and Josh Morgan could end up being the top three receivers.
“We’ll let that play out,” Shanahan said, “but when you go after a guy like [Garçon] and you go after a guy like [Morgan], you’ve got a guy like Leonard Hankerson, you know there are three guys right at the top of the list that are playmakers, and that’s what we’re looking for.”
Veteran wide receiver Santana Moss has reported to the Redskins’ facility in very good shape this offseason, according to Shanahan.
“Santana is coming in excellent shape,” Shanahan said. “He’s 15 pounds lighter than at the end of the season. After the first four games, after he got hurt, I think that set him back and it took him a while to get back in playing shape. So he’s come in probably in as good a shape as he’s come in the last three years, at least according to him.”
Right now it looks like the only starter that is likely locked in is Pierre Garcon on the outside.
If both Hankerson and Morgan excel in training camp and show that they’re capable of being strong contributors this season, I don’t believe Moss will be on the Redskins’ week one roster.
