According to the New York Daily News, second-year wide receiver Rueben Randle has been one of the Giants’ training camp stars so far. It looks like he’s made a big jump since his last year.
He’s been given an enormous opportunity with Hakeem Nicks sidelined by an injured groin, taking almost all the snaps with the first team in team drills. And he’s taken advantage with a sometimes spectacular performance. He’s flashed his speed and a quickness that wasn’t always evident last year. Judging by the number of times he’s caught passes he seems to have a better grasp of the offense than he did last season, and is clearly more confident in his role. And he’s shown a knack for getting open, even in double coverage, finding just enough room for Eli Manning to hit him. That’s huge, and not just because of Nicks’ health. With Nicks and Victor Cruz the Giants already have a terrific 1-2 punch at receiver. If Randle can emerge they suddenly have a very dangerous Big 3.
Giants.com had the following to say about Randle.
Building off a strong showing in OTAs and minicamp, the second-year wide receiver’s stock keeps rising at training camp. Randle, the Giants’ 2012 second-round draft choice, has come down with some of the biggest catches from the first week at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center, while spending time with the first unit with Hakeem Nicks being limited by a groin issue.
With Nicks in the final year of his contract, you have to wonder if the Giants will let him walk after this season if Randle doe emerge as a star this season.
