Ron Jaworski: “Colin Kaepernick has a chance to be one of the greatest QBs of all-time”

ESPN NFL analyst Ron Jaworski believes 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has the chance to be one of the greatest of all-time.

While I don’t doubt the talent Kaepernick has,  I think it’s a little premature to come to this kind of conclusion when he hasn’t even played in a full season.

The biggest question for Kaepernick and the 49ers going forward is how they will adjust to the way opposing defenses defend the read-option this coming season.

The ‘chance’ for Kaepernick to ‘become one of the greatest’ seems to be there after 10 solid starts producing some of the highest stats ever for the QB position – and the read-option may not be as easy as you suggest to slow down… as NBC Bay Area Doug Williams posted …Alabama head coach Lou Saban said recently that NFL teams have been seeking his advice.
“Several NFL coaches have come to visit this year to say, ‘How do you stop these guys?’ Because they’re not accustomed to seeing that (offense),” he said on ESPN.

But Saban believes it’s not going to be as easy as Tomlin and Pagano suggest. If a team employs a mobile quarterback with a read-option attack, stopping it may be nearly impossible.
BUT if the read-option were eliminated its not like Kaepernick has to pack his bags … this guy has proven he’s a top quality pocket passer … so he could become one of the best using his skill-option.

Every. Single. Time. Do people even watch games before writing articles?

The read option was NOT a staple of the 49ers offense when Kaepernick finished 3rd in the NFL in QBR. The 49ers did NOT bring out the read option until the PLAYOFFS. Prior to that, Kaepernick was dominating as a pocket passer running the same offense Alex Smith did. During that time, the 49ers used the read-option probably less than 10 ten times.

  3. Mr. Clutch says

When he got to the Super Bowl he looked like a guy who only had 10 starts. CHOKED big time at the end. Not clutch

  4. avgnoix says

Mr. Clutch you should be Mr. Choke. How did Kap choke when he was playing against the guys in black and white stripe? Kap had 300 + yards passing and a SB record 15 yd rushing TD. He almost engineer the biggest SB comeback in history had they won. Next time google so you don’t hurt yourself.
