Ron Jaworski: Chip Kelly’s offense won’t work in the NFL

Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski was on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philly and was asked if Geno Smith is mobile enough to run head coach Chip Kelly’s offense.

“The offense that we saw at Oregon will not be run in the NFL,” said Jaws.  “I can tell you that right now.  Categorically it will not work. I’ve spoken to 20 scouts today, some head coaches today. What everyone is doing is preparing to stop this read-option this whole offseason.  Either the quarterback is going to get crushed, or someone is going to stop it.  I think it will be a combination of both.  So I think Chip will adapt his Oregon offense to the NFL.”

I agree with Jaws that the read-option will end soon and that Kelly will have to change-up his offense for the NFL.  Kelly’s offense at Oregon was able to take advantage of slower college players on opposing defenses.  Unlike college, everyone in the NFL is fast.
