Back in January of 2010, New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan stepped on a scale at the Jets’ team facility and weighed 348 pounds. He said he couldn’t believe what he saw.
“I couldn’t believe it. I turned around and looked to see if someone was behind me,” Ryan said today, per the Newark Star-Ledger. “To me, the answer was without question having the lap-band, and it has been great.”
Ryan has dropped a total of 102 pounds and now weighs in at 242 pounds. He refused to talk about his weight until he lost at least 100 pounds.
“I don’t know what I am, but certainly I don’t think I’m in the morbidly obese category anymore,” Ryan said. “I make a lot of money doing something I love, I know how fortunate I am, but without your health, what do you really have? I want to see my kids grow, I want to see their kids grow up, and all that was important to me.”
We are very happy for Ryan, now he needs to help the Jets get back to the playoffs, or he’ll be out of a job and will have plenty of time to work on his physique.
