Free agent tackle Jermon Bushrod has yet to have any significant contract talks with the New Orleans Saints, per Larry Holder of NOLA.com. The two time Pro Bowler had this to say about the situation:
Bushrod added, though, he expects talks to heat up soon and maybe as early as this week. “It’s about to get interesting,” Bushrod said.
Bushrod said he’s heard the report of how the Saints don’t plan on using the franchise tag on Bushrod, who General Manager Mickey Loomis said earlier this offseason is the Saints’ top free-agent priority. Bushrod understands that while the possible $9.7 million price tag for an offensive lineman under the franchise tag would be a “blessing,” Bushrod covets a long-term deal specifically with the Saints.
The future doesn’t look to good for the Saints. They have the second highest cap number(currently). To get a deal done they are going to have to restructure some contracts. The most likely candidates for restructures are Will Smith, Jonathan Vilma, and Roman Harper.
