Report: Steelers would like to draft Mike Evans

According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers would like to draft a wide receiver in the first or second round.  The guy they have their eyes on is Mike Evans of Texas A&M.

But the Steelers are hoping they can be more productive this year with the development of Markus Wheaton, the signing of free-agent Lance Moore from the New Orleans Saints and the very real possibility they will take a tall wide receiver in the first or second round of the draft.

They would like to draft Mike Evans of Texas A&M, a 6-foot-5, 231-pound receiver whose stock soared even more when he ran a sub-4.5 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. But Evans might not be available when the Steelers pick at No. 15 overall.

A lot of teams are hoping Evans slips to them.  The Steelers may have to trade up if they really want him.

I think that would be a stupid idea. STEELERS needs are in the secondary, they just finished picking up 2 wr’s, so it shouldn’t be desperation time for a wr in the 1st round, maybe the 3rd not the 1st 2. STEELERS need to learn how to use the existing receivers they have, they still have Moye, Wheaton, Brown and Brown.

I don’t think there’s a team in the league that wouldn’t like to have Evans on their team. With that being said, I think a lock down corner should be our first priority, then a mountain of a man to stuff the run game, then a tall receiver. Moye has shown he can be a red zone threat. We have good receivers and a possible great running back duo. Beat ‘um up and down the field on O, eat the clock like a fat man at a Chinese buffet, and keep them from scoring. How could it be any simpler?

Moye caught one tD pass last season but also dropped a TD pass so i don’t think he is proven to be a red zone threat based off that.
I’m with you though on the CB being our biggest priority, although DE is a very close second.

I don’t think Evans or Gilbert make it past the tenth pick. Denard might fall to 15 if not Bradely Roby wouldn’t be a bad pick he’s very similar to Gilbert. I also think Benjamin might fall to Pittsburgh in round two. There’s lots of talent in this draft at the skill positions and it’s past due for Pittsburgh to pick up a CB and/or a WR early.
