According to Jason LaCanfora of the NFL Network, the New Orleans Saints have placed the franchise tag on quarterback Drew Brees.
LaCanfora indicated that Brees was tagged with the exclusive-rights franchise designation so teams aren’t able to negotiate with him.
The Saints and Brees will now have until July 15th to get new deal completed. If they don’t he’ll have to play the 2012 under the franchise tag.
With Brees getting tagged, it’ll be very difficult for the Saints to be able to retain both guard Carl Nicks and wide receiver Marques Colston who’ll now likely hit the free agent market.Follow PFZ on Twitter @ProFootballZone
