According to Rich Tandler of CSNWashington.com, former Redskins tight end and ESPN 980 radio host Chris Cooley claims the Skins may end up keeping head coach Mike Shanahan if he agrees to replace both the offensive coordinator (his son Kyle Shanahan) and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett.
Former tight end and current afternoon talk host on ESPN 980 said Friday afternoon that team sources have told him that Shanahan could stay on as head coach if he replaces both the offensive and defensive coordinators.
I’m sure Shanahan wouldn’t mind getting rid of Haslett, but I can’t imagine him firing his son.
Cooley said that a possible replacement for the younger Shanahan could be ex-Texans head coach Gary Kubiak, a player and coach under Shanahan in Denver.
At times when he was speaking early in his show, which he was doing from Redskins Park, he said that Shanahan staying is “likely” and it other times he said that scenario was “not out of the realm of possibility”.
In any case, Cooley said, a decision on Shanahan’s future has not been made.
