According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is drawing some interest from a couple of NFL teams that are looking for a new head coach.
According to a person with knowledge of the league’s coaching market, at least two teams with coaching vacancies have preliminary interest in Haslett. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, and did not identify the teams.
It is not clear if the interest will lead to Haslett being interviewed for any head coaching jobs or if he will end up being a serious contender such an opening this offseason. Some people within the league seem convinced that both Haslett and Shanahan, the Redskins’ offensive coordinator and the son of Coach Mike Shanahan, will draw some interest but are long shots to be offered any head coaching jobs this offseason.
Haslett was the Saints head coach from 2000-2005.
Earlier this week, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan made it clear that his coaches won’t conduct any interviews until their season is over.
