Report: Raiders wanted Matt Barkley, settled for Tyler Wilson

According to the National Football Post, the Oakland Raiders were ready to jump on quarterback Matt Barkley in the fourth round of this year’s draft, but the Eagles snatched him up earlier in the round.

Although he fell down draft boards, and was only the fourth quarterback selected in April, there remain some talent evaluators who still suggest that Barkley could be the best quarterback, over the long haul, from the 2013 class. By the way, the Oakland Raiders were of such a mind, and planned to jump on Barkley with their fourth round pick, before Philly took him with the first selection in the stanza. The Raiders then opted for a fallback, Tyler Wilson of Arkansas.

While Wilson was impressive at times for the Raiders this spring, Barkley will likely be better

I am of the opinion that Barkley IS the best QB in the 2013 draft, all the USC haters will see that just because Leinart was a bust and Sanchez hasn’t lived up to expectations does not mean that Barkley will not have a bright future in the NFL. Once again I think Oakland has missed the boat on what could very well be the QB of their future, just like they did with Kaepernick. The worst part is these are both QBs they could have taken in later rounds with very little risk, it’s very frustrating to see the team across the bay with what should have been One of Al’s final picks doing great things, they really missed the boat on him.
