According to the Chicago Tribune, a plea deal is once again in the works for former NFL wide receiver Sam Hurd after being charged with drug conspiracy, conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana.
“A plea of guilty is in the works,” Jay Ethington, Hurd’s Dallas-based attorney, told the Tribune. A rearraignment is scheduled for Thursday in Dallas federal court.
Ethington deferred further comment to Hurd’s lead attorney, Mike McCrum, who did not immediately return a message.
Hurd’s trial is still scheduled for Monday in Dallas. The former Northern Illinois receiver, currently in prison, is charged with drug conspiracy, accused of conspiring to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana beginning in July 2011 and continuing through June 6, 2012.
Hurd faces up to a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $10 million fine.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens to Hurd.
