Report: Patriots “putting out feelers” for available tight ends

According to Rotoworld.com,  ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Insiders that the Patriots are “putting out feelers” for available tight ends.

Jacob Tamme, Clay Harbor, and Tony Moeaki are just a few names that could be available. Whether the Patriots’ interest in tight ends has anything to do with their expectations on Rob Gronkowski’s (back surgery) recovery is impossible to say. It’s also possible they’re not pleased with Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard behind Zach Sudfeld. The Boston Herald reported Monday that Gronk remains “right on schedule” for a return in mid-September.

It does seem like the only tight end that’s stepped up so far is Sudfeld and that’s not going to cut it.

    “Gronk” what a guy!
If he doesn’t make it back by Sept = I.R. = no season comeback for him.
Every time the media photographs him, he’s got a long-neck beer in his mouth !!
Q: Is THAT part of the physical therapy???
Perhaps, he could go join the JETS and him & Mark Sackchez could get drunk together every night!!

    Yea, that’s it — that’s the ticket!

    Oh, I almost forgot:

__URP !! (That’s for YOU Mark Sackchez !

Gronkowski and Ballard should be on the PUP list. Gronkowski is still 30 lbs lighter than his playing weight and Ballard is still 15 lbs lighter than his playing weight. Holman, Fells and Sudfeld should be the TE’s until the end of week 6.
After week 6, the TE’s should be Gronkowski, Ballard and Sudfeld. I would dislike to get rid of Ballard after investing a year of rehab in him. The Giants would likely take him right back.
