Report: Lions in preliminary talks to extend Mathew Stafford’s contract

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Detroit Lions are in preliminary talks with quarterback Mathew Stafford’s agent to get a contract extension completed.

The Lions currently have $7 million in cap room and Stafford accounts for $20 million of their cap for 2013.  If they can give him an extension, it would free up more money, which could potentially help them sign Reggie Bush in free agency.
