Report: LB Victor Butler injures knee during OTAs

During OTAs, contact is kept at a minimum to avoid injury. However, with football being a physical sport, injuries can never be avoided. New Orleans Saints linebacker Victor Butler is the latest player to be injured during practice.

This is how Butler was injured during practice.

Running back Mark Ingram took a swing pass during a team drill and collided with Butler near the sideline. Ingram ran free, but Butler remained on the turf for a couple of minutes. Ingram and Saints Coach Sean Payton went over to check on Butler while Butler was on the turf.

Butler eventually came to his feet, but had both of his arms around the shoulders of trainers as they helped walk Butler out of the indoor practice facility.

Butler was signed this offseason to start in defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s 3-4 defense whom he played for in Dallas. He will (hopefully) start opposite Will Smith at outside linebacker.

Head coach Sean Payton did say the team was fortunate the injury wasn’t worse and Butler will be fine.

Injuries during practice are always the worst. Injuries period are the worst. The players, however, know what they are signing up for. Butler will be an important piece in rebuilding the Saint’s defense. We wish Butler has a speedy recovery and gets back on the field soon.
