According to Len Pasquarelli of the National Football Post, one NFL head coach that could end up being fired at the end of the season is Greg Schiano of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who may be losing his locker room each week his team fails to win their first game of the season.
It’s always a little dicey to begin identifying coaches “on the hot seat” before a season even reaches its halfway point. But one guy whose name keeps popping up as a potential victim at the end of the season is Tampa Bay’s Greg Schiano. The history of the NFL isn’t exactly replete with head coaches who didn’t make it into their third season with a franchise. But in his second year with the Bucs, there continue to be rumblings that Schiano hasn’t connected well with his players. He dumped the guy who was supposed to have been the team’s franchise quarterback, Josh Freeman (who will start for his new team, Minnesota, on Sunday), although the former first-round pick’s regression was startling, and the change may have been justified.
Don’t forget that cornerbackDarrelle Revis complained about the way Schiano runs things. If your star player isn’t happy that will rub off onto the rest of the team.
Despite reports that the Bucs are behind Schiano, the fact that they have yet to win a game this season with all of the talent they have on both sides of the ball is startling. I know the quarterback position is shaky right now for them, but they should have been able to win at least a couple of games by now.
