According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is scheduled to meet with Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder this week to discuss the Redskins team name as Goodell prepares to meet with a Native American group that is against the name.
The person, speaking on the condition of anonymity because neither the league nor the team had publicly confirmed the meeting, said there is no indication that Snyder has modified his stance about changing the name.
The meeting between Snyder and Goodell “is to get more of an understanding from the club as to how it plans to address the issue,” according to the person with knowledge of the situation.
Snyder has said he has no plans to change the team’s name.
NFL officials are scheduled to meet Wednesday with representatives of the Oneida Indian Nation. The group has called the team name offensive to Native Americans and has called for it to be changed. The meeting between Snyder and Goodell apparently could take place Tuesday, although the person with knowledge of it did not specify that.
Everyone including the commissioner knows that Snyder isn’t changing the name of his team. I don’t see the point of this meeting.
Goodell needs to bring Snyder with him to meet with the Oneida Indian Nation.
