ESPN’s John Clayton made an appearance on Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN Radio and was asked about the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback situation with Chip Kelly now as their head coach.
“The early word seems to be they’ll make a couple changes there,” said Clayton. “Now they’ll have Nick Foles under contract, so there’s no decision that has to be made, he can just compete. But you get the feeling Michael Vick is not going to be there. He would still be a perfect option to use to do the things Chip Kelly would want. But with his monetary situation a decision has to be made literally five days after the Super Bowl whether to keep his contract or not keep his contract. And I think Michael would be willing to re-work his contract, but still sounds like Chip might make the change there and bring in the new quarterbacks.”
Even if Vick is a good fit for Kelly’s offense, he can’t stay healthy and it would make more sense for the Eagles to cut him and save the money.
