Report: Dolphins will use the franchise tag on Jake Long if they need to

According to Miami Herald, if the Dolphins aren’t able to lock up left tackle Jake Long to a long-term extension next offseason, they’ll use the franchise tag on him, order to keep him from hitting the open free agent market.

Long is clearly a franchise left tackle and the Dolphins have to do whatever it takes to keep him around for the remainder of his career.  It would certainly be a disservice to rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill if they allowed a player like Long to leave in free agency.
