Many NFL executives have told Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports that 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will likely land a top-five contract when his rookie deal runs out.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is on the cusp of a second straight trip to the Super Bowl, and, a win in Seattle on Sunday is almost certain to catapult the youngster into one of the five biggest contracts in NFL history. Conversations with a wide range of general managers, contract negotiators and salary cap experts revealed an unmistakable reality for the 49ers: Kaepernick is about to earn top cash, especially if he wins.
La Canfora went on to write that some people believe if the 49ers lose today it might give them leverage towards not giving Kaepernick a mega contract. But he also brought up the point that Kaepernick might not be willing to sign a ‘band-aid contract.”
You have to also factor in that Kaepernick is a mobile quarterback that takes hits at times. The last thing he’ll want to do is not get paid the kind of money he deserves and then run the risk if suffering a serious injury.
