Releasing Terence Newman makes sense for the Cowboys

According to Tim MacMahon of ESPNDallas.com,  if the Dallas Cowboys decide to release cornerback Terence Newman this offseason,  they’ll save themselves $4 million in cap space for the 2012 season.

Newman is set to make $8 million dollars next season and at the age of 33,  it doesn’t make sense to keep him around as he continues to decline.

The problem with releasing Newman is finding the right player to replace him in the starting lineup.  The Cowboys hoped Orlando Scandrick would continue to progress,  but he’s just as unreliable as Newman at times.
