Washington Redskins safety LaRon landry will be placed on season ending injured reserve for the second straight season after being hindered once again by the same Achilles that ended his 2010 season early.
Landry decided to not have surgery this past offseason and now it seems that it’s back fired on him, since he was never able to perform at a high level this year.
“I talked to LaRon earlier today,” said Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan. “He felt that it was quite sore. He’s been trying to push it, trying to get back over the last couple weeks and [he] thought it was in his best interest to go on I.R. Usually what’s in a player’s best interest is within our best interest, so we’re going to put him on IR. Hopefully he can get that thing well.”
Landry will be a free agent once the season is over and it looks like he’ll need to have surgery on his Achilles before he can really start marketing himself to other teams.
“I’m sure LaRon’s going to get a few recommendations, we’ll get a few opinions and make a decision [on] the time-frame and what to do,” Shanahan said. “But when we talked to Dr. Anderson and Dr. Anderson felt that it was in his best interest to get it operated on at the end of the season, that kind of said it all to us.”
Don’t be surprised if Landry re-signs with the Redskins for one season if he ends up undergoing surgery so he can showcase himself to other teams and prove hes healthy.

It’s a huge loss, but at least it is in a season already lost. Here’s hoping Landry gets back to 100%, he’s an exciting player to watch.
That said, the Redskins’ biggest loss happened a long time ago. They play now in a stadium that bears his name. Jack Kent Cook was the heart and soul of the Redskins, and they haven’t been the same since his death.
For the sake of Redskin fans (I used to be one in the Cook era), here’s hoping that Snyder gets a clue. Perhaps the Ghost of Redskins Past will visit him this Christmas and he’ll have an owner epiphany.
