According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins will use their franchise tag on tight end Fred Davis.
Under the franchise tag, Davis will make just over $5 million for the 2012 season.
Davis had a break out season in 2011 when fellow tight end Chris Cooley went down for the season. But he ended up missing the final four games of the season after testing positive for marijuana.
One more positive test and Davis will be suspended from the NFL for an entire season, which is likely the reason why the Redskins aren’t ready to give him a long-term deal yet.
