Raiders make their first roster cuts: Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times reports the Raiders have reduced their roster to 80 players.
Fullback Bryson Kelly, wide receivers Damola Adeniji and Steve Goulet, offensive linemen Ben Lamaak and Lou Eliades, and defensive tackle Derrick Hill were waived.
Veteran safety Josh Bullocks was released and linebacker Travis Goethel and offensive lineman Alan Pelc were placed on injured reserve.
CB Chris Johnson Returns: Looks like the Raiders on the right track returning to cornerback Johnson returns to practice after undergoing an undisclosed surgery two weeks ago. In last weeks preseason game his services were missed as Johnson was sidelined, he could only watch as rookie DeMarcus Van Dyke and second-year cornerback Walter McFadden showed their inexperience. Van Dyke surrendered 73 yards on four Drew Brees passes in New Orleans’ opening 80-yard drive Sunday. Also returning to practice was defensive tackle John Henderson.
Seymour sits out, again: Richard Seymour (hamstring) did not practice, but coach Hue Jackson did not mind. Even if Seymour last practiced full early last week and did not dress Sunday. Rookie left guard Stefen Wisniewski missed practice with an undisclosed injury that Jackson said was minor. Also among the missing were wide receiver Chaz Schilens and safety Mike Mitchell.
Chekwa making a switch? – Chimdi Chekwa Raiders fourth-round draft pick, who played cornerback for the Buckeyes at Ohio State, is close to transitioning to safety full-time after being switched last week and playing there against the Saints.
Undrafted free agent impress coaches: Raiders safety Jerome Boyd continues to make impression in camp. And hopes to continue to ink a roster spot on the team.
Okay starting out a little dinged is not what coach Hue Jackson had in mind but the team still has two weeks to prepare and be ready before the season opener takes place on Monday night September, 12 against the Denver Broncos in Mile High.
