Phil Simms on the Giants struggles: “You always have to give a lot of the blame to the quarterback”

Former Giants great Phil Simms isn’t ready to give quarterback Eli Manning a pass for the Giants 0-5 start this season.

“You always have to give a lot of the blame to the quarterback, especially when you’re throwing interceptions at the numbers that he has,” said Phil Simms on this evening’s broadcast of “NFL Monday QB” on CBS Sports Network via Tom Rock of Newsday. “All quarterbacks know this situation.”

Simms says Eli may need to take a different approach.

“You always have to give a lot of the blame to the quarterback, especially when you’re throwing interceptions at the numbers that he has,” said Phil Simms on this evening’s broadcast of “NFL Monday QB” on CBS Sports Network. “All quarterbacks know this situation.”

Manning was looking very good this past Sunday before he fell apart in the fourth quarter.

It seems like to make that Eli doesn’t have the ability to carry his team without a strong running game.

Eli Manning is a little above average QB that is all. he had two good playoff runs with two Super Bowl. but has always been a turnover machine who can never carry his team. everything must be perfect protection and WRs routes or he is BELOW average when things break down around him

    Preach it !! Brother SIMMS:
    Pass completion 100:
    #1: O. line which can block !
#2: Good running game, so the defense doesn’t just key on QB passing
#3: QB trows de ball wheren it ‘posed to be.
#4: Receiver RUNS THE RIGHT ROUTE and CATCHES THE FLIPPIN’ BALL.
#5 If QB gets in ‘trouble’ receivers come back and ‘flatten out’ their pattern = easier for running QB to hit them.

NOTE: The last preseason game Tim Tebow threw a ball into the chain gang– and all the Tebow-haters said stuff like ‘look at that–he can’t throw.” I said, “THAT was on the receiver– it was probably a ‘come back’ for the ball kinda play–the receiver plain ran the wrong pattern.’
Tebow finished the game with 2 touchdowns, 50 yards rushing.
He was released the next dang day.
