Running back Peyton Hillis would love to finish his career with the Cleveland Browns organization. But right now he’s wondering if he’ll last past this season.
Both the Browns and Hillis haven’t been able to make any progress on getting a contract extension completed.
Hillis’ rookie contract runs out at the end of this season and as the weeks pass, he remains reluctant in believing he’ll be in Cleveland in 2012.
“Whenever something’s not set in stone, then I guess anything is possible, which means your career’s not here,” he said. “So, yeah, that definitely worries me.”
Hillis can’t help but feel unappreciated by the Browns.
“You feel unappreciated because you want to get something done and nothing has gotten done at this point,” said Hillis, who rushed for nearly 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. “You don’t know the ultimate feelings in the end of what’s going on up top (in the front office). You take it with a grain of salt and you keep moving on.”
In the end, the Browns need to make sure they are able to get a long term deal done with one of the NFL’s most punishing running backs.
