The New England Patriots have announced that they’ve released running back Leon Washington and signed defensive back Justin Green.
The New England Patriots announced that they have signed DB Justin Green to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. To make room on the roster for Green, the Patriots released veteran RB Leon Washington.
Green, 22, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Illinois on July 21, 2013. The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder began his college career at Illinois as a running back before moving to the secondary for his final three seasons. He made 29 starts over his final three seasons, registering 76 total tackles, 13 passes defensed, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Green was released by the Patriots on Aug. 31 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 1.
Washington only had one carry for one yard this season. His career could be over at this point.
