New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has decided that to practice on Monday after getting checked out by a knee specialist in Atlanta on Friday. The specialist ruled that his knee won’t need surgery. So Umenyiora is healthy enough to hit the practice field.
Umenyiora has been standing firm in not practicing in hopes of getting a new contract from the Giants whiling claiming that his knee needs surgery. But at this point it seems that he’s finally realized they’re not budging and it’s in his best interest to play since second year defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is slowly taking over his starting spot.
Umenyiora was recently offered performance based incentives by the Giants to possibly increase his pay this season. He told the AP that the incentives were”unacceptable and shows they don’t really respect the fact I sacrifice my health for the franchise.”
Even though Umenyiora remains unhappy, it seems he’s going to give in and honor his current contract.
