Despite a great start to the 2011 season for Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte, no progress has been made in getting a contract extension done.
“There really is nothing new,” Angelo said.”We did what I consider our very best. I know they tried as well. We weren’t able to get it accomplished. He was our No. 1 goal, we spent a lot of time in the preseason trying to get it done. Right now, our focus is on the season.
“I’ve been through a few of these, and when you take these into the season, it’s not good for anybody. I’m not saying we can’t get it done, I’m not saying that, but right now our focus is on the season.”
It’s clear that a deal between Forte and the Bears won’t get done during the 2011 season. They’ll both likely wait until the offseason to get back to the negotiating table.
Last week we brought up the possibility of the Bears looking to trade Forte so they dont have to pay him. They could instead place the franchise tag on him and trade him away.
