NFL will begin the regular season with replacement officials
According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the NFL has sent out a memo to all 32 teams, telling them that the 2012 regular season will begin with replacement officials.
With opening night of the 2012 NFL season one week away, the league office alerted all 32 teams Wednesday that the season will begin with replacement officials in place, according to a memo obtained by NFL.com and NFL Network.
“Negotiations between the league and the NFL Referees’ Association remain ‘deadlocked,’ according to the memo sent by NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson,” wrote Breer.
“In light of the current state of negotiations, we will have replacement crews on the field when the regular season begins,” Anderson’s memo said per Breer. “The replacements have undergone extensive training and evaluation, and have shown steady improvement during the preseason. We will continue the training with each crew and they will work as much of the regular season as necessary.”
The NFL season is going to be miserable if the regular officials aren’t back on the field as soon as possible.
