NFL warns Alex Smith about wearing Giants baseball hat
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith showed some support for the local baseball team by wearing a Giants hat to his press conference after Sunday night’s win over the Lions.
It looks like the NFL wasn’t to fond of Smith’s gesture. The league ended up fining him $15,000 for wearing the hat. Then Merton Hanks changed his mind and ended up retracting the fine and gave him a warning instead.
Smith said he was fined for wearing non-NFL-sponsored gear of a competing league. This is against league rules during the 90 minute period that follows a game.
“So it’s weird,” Smith said. “I could wear a Polo shirt after the game and they’re not going to fine me.”
Well that’s the NFL. As if they need to worry about baseball actually competing with them.
