It’s pretty ironic that Nate Montana, the son of 49ers great Joe Montana is learning the offense his father mastered and won multiple Super Bowls with.
“This is my first time in a West Coast system,” said Montana, per the San Jose Mercury News. “I’ve been studying, trying to get it down as fast as possible.”
Montana says he’s not even worried about being as great as his father.
“At this point in my life, I’ve been able to just forget about all that and go out and play football,” Nate said. “I’m not him. I’m not going to be him. I would like to get to that spot, but it’s damn near impossible, obviously. Other quarterbacks would have done it, everyone would do it if it were that easy.”
Joe gave Nate a little advice before heading to rookie mini camp.
“He just said, ‘Go out there, be yourself and sling it,’ ” Nate said. “That’s what I’m trying to do.”
