Mike Tomlin wanted to sign Michael Vick

According to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wanted to sign Eagles quarterback Michael Vick when he was released from prison three years ago.

The reason Tomlin didn’t get his wish was because the Rooney’s were against signing Vick.

Another reason Tomlin ended up not going after Vick was because Ben Roethlisberger was going through a tough time, since he was being accused of raping a woman in lake Tahoe, NV.

“Given some of the things that my quarterback was going through, I didn’t think it was the appropriate time to add another quarterback to the mix,” Tomlin told NBC-TV’s Bob Costas that year, per Bouchette. “He’s going through somewhat of a trying time with the civil allegation, a case against him. I didn’t want to do anything that was less than supportive to Ben.”

If the Steelers ended up signing Vick, I wonder who the Eagles starting quarterback would be going into this Sunday’s game when both teams face off.
