Free agent linebacker Mike Peterson is working hard this off-season and is willing to do what it takes to get a new contract from the Atlanta Falcons.
The 34 year old Peterson has been playing for the Falcons for the past two seasons and wants to remain in Atlanta. He is currently working out with his Falcons teammates because he feels like it’s the only place for him.
“It’s a little awkward feeling. But this is the place that I want to be,” said Peterson. “I want to be here and I’ve heard they want me here. I have a feeling that they want me back in whatever role that maybe. That’s the approach that I’m taking.”
Even without a contract Peterson continues to take a leadership role with the Falcons’ younger players.
“The young guys will probably tell you that I’ve been checking up on them,” said Peterson. “I am just trying to make sure that everybody has been working out. We took down notes during last season. Go back and brief yourself on the notes. Stick your head in the playbook. Stay out of trouble and stay out of the news. As a veteran, sometimes I have to play that daddy role or that Uncle Pete role. I think the younger guys accept it and they probably expect it.”
The Falcons need to bring Peterson back since he knows the defense and right now teams may have to scramble to put their rosters together before the season begins because of the lockout.
