Former NFL vice president of officiating and current FOX NFL analyst Mike Pereira wrote an article that was posted on Wednesday on FoxSports.com, In the article he blasted former NFL head coach and current ESPN Monday Night Football Analyst Jon Gruden for his lack of knowledge when it comes to the rules of the game.
“I am not a fan of Gruden’s,” wrote Pereira. “Not today, not yesterday, not when I worked for the NFL and not when I was working on the field as a side judge. He was a loudmouth as a coach who constantly disrespected officials and he is a blowhard in the broadcast booth who spouts off when he doesn’t know what he is talking about.”
“I respect his knowledge about the X’s and O’s when it comes to coaching and playing the game of football, but I have very little respect for him when it comes to officiating and his knowledge of the rules.”
Pereira does a great job of going over two plays in which Gruden’s commentary clearly shows that he doesn’t know the rules when it comes to helmet to helmet hits in the NFL.
I compeletely agree with Pereira, Gruden is excellent with the X’s and O’s, but when it comes to everything else that goes into being a broadcast analyst, he’s a complete failure. It really is time for him to get back on the sidelines and coach again.

WoW! I couldn’t agree with himanymore. Gruden makes a great college coach. I was never impressed with him as a coach. He became popular for winning a superbowl with Tony Dungy’s team. As soon as they won the team was down hill because Gruden screwed it up.
The team Dungy put together in Tampa Ray Charles could have won with it. Tamps was too quick in dumping Tony or else he would have won many SB’s.
I dont really give much credit to the words of a “President of Officiating” who has rules that prevent a defender from sticking his arm up unless hes looking back at the ball or ” Fair Catch”, or the QB’s arm was going forward. If its still in his hand when he lost it, its a fumble. I’ll admit that officiating is a tough job and overall they do a fine job, its the rules that suck. Complain about rules officials not commentaters.
Furthermore… i’d venture to say that there are more people out there complaining about officiating than john grudens comments.
Well if he really wants to get back into coaching college football UK really needs a new coach after 2012. The Joke has been on us for 2 years.
Is Gruden still beating his wife?
