Mike Florio doesn’t believe Saints reporter Larry Holder has enough problems

Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune wrote an article in which he claims that Saints tight end Jimmy Graham shouldn’t be paid like a wide receiver because he doesn’t produce when he’s split out wide and a cornerback is covering him.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com thought Holder’s article was silly and decided to take a shot at hom in an article he wrote about Graham earlier today.

Now, someone apparently has sold Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune on the notion that snaps taken by Graham in the slot shouldn’t count as participation as a receiver if Graham isn’t being covered by a cornerback.

In an article that reads a lot more like a closing argument for the Saints’ effort to save $5.2 million in 2014 salary (and a lot more over the long-term deal for which the 2014 salary would be the starting point), Holder harps on various factors that are irrelevant to the question that a system arbitrator will resolve — whether Graham participated in more snaps as a receiver than as a tight end in 2013.

Of course Holder didn’t appreciate Florio’s piece and fired back on Twitter.

Which prompted a small Twitter fight.

Florio then told Holder he doesn’t have enough problems and then Holder had a great response.

It’s great that Florio disagreed with Holder, but there was no need to undermine his work by taking a shot at him.

Florio came across as a fool in the whole thing. Holder’s article may not make everyone agree on the issue but it lay down some strong points to one side of the case. Holder did not expect his article to settle the issue. It laid some good insight on the issue with game tape and productivity. Truth is that the Saints will sign JG. It is the price that is being haggled over. So, the question is worth asking… would you sign a TE for top WR money or just sign a top 5 WR for the same?
